Engineering
The Engineering program here at South Adams offers a structured and engaging sequence of courses that introduce students to key concepts in design, technology, sustainability, and infrastructure. Beginning in middle school and continuing through high school, students build critical thinking, creativity, and technical skills through a variety of project-based learning experiences.
Courses Offered:
Engineering Essentials (8th Grade)
This foundational course introduces students to core engineering principles and the design process. Through team-based challenges and creative exploration, students begin to develop their problem-solving abilities in a structured setting.
Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
Students deepen their understanding of the design process while learning to use professional 3D modeling software. Emphasis is placed on technical drawing, iterative thinking, and developing solutions to design challenges.
Principles of Engineering (POE)
This course provides an overview of various engineering fields, including mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. Students apply scientific and mathematical concepts to explore how different systems operate and interact.
Environmental Sustainability
Focusing on environmental and ecological concerns, students examine energy sources, resource management, and sustainable design practices. The course encourages innovative thinking around global and community-level challenges.
Civil Engineering
Students explore the fundamentals of infrastructure design, including structures, transportation networks, and site planning. The course introduces tools and techniques used in the field and emphasizes planning, analysis, and innovation in the built environment.
